What is your name and how do you shine your light (entrepreneur, student, community leader, strong family, etc.)?
Ashleigh Milligan-Grandpre . I am an Educator, Entrepreneur, & Author.
Why do you believe you are Bright Flavor(Bright flavor being the light of the world, salt of the earth)?
I believe I am Bright Flavor because daily I aim to set a positive example. I aim to be kind, sophisticated, and humble. No matter whose around me, I want to project a standard...always.
How do you pass or have passed the salt in your daily life in your community?
I recently had an opportunity to speak at my school’s Career Day. It was 3 sessions...2 groups of middle school girls and a class of fifth graders. I spoke about not only being an educator,, but also being an entrepreneur and author. Of all the things that I spoke about, if they didn’t walk away with all of it, I really wanted them to understand the Power that lives inside of us....the Power of God that we were birthed with. The students completed vision boards prior to Career Day. I urged them to complete another one if necessary. I wanted them to realize that this wasn’t just a school assignment, but this was their future. I urged them to tape it to their bedroom walls and look it it daily. I wanted them to understand that with the Power from God that lives on the inside of us, we can do anything....we can be anything. It starts with belief. We have to see ourselves how we want to be and what we want to become. I urged them to lean on that Power daily. It was such a wonderful experience....such an honor. I look forward to more opportunities to speak light in our youth.
How do you pass or have passed the salt in your daily life in your worldwide?
I recently released my first Children’s Book, Lily Frog: The Love of Pre-K. Lily is a charming little frog that shares her school and life journey with children, emphasis on ages 3-5 years old. The Love of Pre-K is the first book in the Lily Frog series. Lily Frog is beginning Pre-K. The story captures the joy of her first day. As the story unfolds, students are kindly introduced to routines, expectations, and activities that are apart of the Preschool day. Teachers can also "borrow" some of the gold mine ideas presented in the book. It is my goal to continue creating stories to help navigate students on their school and life journey.
Who or what was most influential in helping you become Bright Flavor and why?
My parents and sister definitely have a lot to do with me becoming bright flavor. My family has always unconsciously pushed me to excel. I have always wanted to live up to their standards and make them proud. I would also have to say that my Bishop, Bishop Love, has a lot to do with helping me to become bright flavor. Bishop truly wants to see people do well. He has always preached about living your best life, setting a vision for your life, and speaking light into your life. He speaks light into me and through that I know I can accomplish every desire.
What was your turning point in knowing it was ok for you to shine and pass the salt to others while doing so?
I’m honesty still in the turning point. I have been leaning on “Our Deepest Fear” by Marianne Williamson for a while. I struggle sometimes with realizing that I have light because I might not have the brightest light in that particular area. Other times, I struggle with fully letting my light shine because I don’t want to make other people feel insecure because I sometimes feel insecure. However, I speak to myself often and remind myself of Who I am...Whose I am....and who I have been called to be. During that moment, I quickly lift my chin up.
What are some challenges you encounter while letting your light shine?
My challenge is really myself. I’m very hard myself. I have very high goals and struggle with being perfect a being. I constantly have to remind myself that no one is perfect.....absolutely no one has it all together.
How do you plan to continue passing the salt and lighting the world in the future?
I plan to extend the Lily Frog series, navigating children through their school and life journey. Within the series, I will continue to share ideas that teachers can implement in their classroom. One goal that I have is to spread the importance of a high quality early childhood education. It is so important that the world understands this importance because a child’s first few years determines their future well being and adult life.
